Methylated Sprits Drop Sequence
A drop of metho making a splash in a pool of sugar water.

This pretty little thing is simply a puff of fumes from nail polish remover bottles.  The method of capture - colour indicating schlieren.  The shapes created are called vorticies.

This little sequence shows the mixing of two different fluids, hot air from the top and acetone fumes from below.
As the two vorticies collide the fluids mix!  Each colour in this image indicates a different direction in the turbulent flow of fluid.
Oh how I love schlieren flow visualisation!
The images were captured using short duration flassssssssh.

It’s Schlier-tastic!!
These are my invisible wonders!  Gas flows and fluid interactions.  Nothing but hot air, metho and acetone, yup, humble old nail polish remover.
The images were captured using a colour indicating z-system schlieren optical array, an open shutter and a flash duration of 125 microseconds.
